Knife Attack in Northern England Update...

LONDON, ENGLAND

A third little girl has died. Police named the girls who died in the attack as Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, Bebe King, 6, and 7-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe. Photographs of the three victims that were shared by their families show Alice wearing a princess-like white dress, while Elsie is pictured smiling into the camera in what appears to be a school uniform. Bebe is shown sporting two ponytails, looking delighted while pointing to her t-shirt that shows the picture of Elphaba and Galinda, the two witches from the “Wicked” musical.

Police also shared a tribute from the family of Bebe King who said: “No words can describe the devastation that has hit our family as try to deal with the loss of our little girl Bebe.” The parents of Dasilver Aguiar called the nine-year-old “our princess” and said: “Keep smiling and dancing like you love to do our Princess, like we said before to you, you’re always our princess and no one would change that.”

6 UK Lawmakers are running to Lead the Conservative Party

Six British lawmakers entered the race to lead the defeated Conservative Party by Monday’s deadline, in a contest that will decide whether the opposition party tacks to the right or steers toward the political center.Contenders include former Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and lawmaker Tom Tugendhat from the party’s centrist grouping. Former Home Secretary Priti Patel and ex-Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch have support from the right of the party. Robert Jenrick, a former immigration minister, and veteran lawmaker Mel Stride also secured the required support of 10 Conservative lawmakers.

Badenoch, who came third in the party’s last leadership election in 2022, was the early favorite with bookmakers. The Nigeria-raised lawmaker used language reminiscent of Conservative icon Margaret Thatcher, saying the party should lead “a renewal for capitalism” built around a smaller state and seek to persuade voters “why conservatism should matter.”

UK Drops Plan to challenge ICC arrest warrent for Netanyahu

LONDON, ENGLAND - The British government has dropped plans to oppose the International Criminal Court’s application for an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged war crimes in Gaza, according to UK news agency PA Media. “This was a proposal by the previous government which was not submitted before the election, and which I can confirm the Government will not be pursuing in line with our long standing position that this is a matter for the court to decide on,” said a spokeswoman for the UK’s new Labour government, which earlier this month replaced a Conservative government led by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

ICC prosecutor Karim Khan announced in May he was seeking arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three Hamas leaders – including Gaza chief Yahya Sinwar – over charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Knife Attack in Northern England

LONDON, ENGLAND

Two children have been killed and nine people injured in a knife attack targeting a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in a town in northern England on Monday, police said. Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said six of the injured children are in critical condition, and added that the attack has also left two adults in critical condition. Kennedy said that the police understands the attacker walked into the premises armed with a knife and started to attack the children.

“We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” she said at a news conference on Monday evening. Merseyside Police said it received reports of a stabbing in Southport, north of Liverpool. Emergency services were called to a “major incident” in the town at around 11:50 a.m. local time (6:50aET). A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene. “The investigation is in its early stages and the motivation for the incident remains unclear. However Counterterrorism Police Northwest have offered their support, ” Kennedy said. The police said earlier the incident was not treated as terror-related.
